You Don’t Have To Do It Alone
“Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living—if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” ~ Denzel Washington
As I prepare to embark on a new journey into a new industry, I find myself feeling beyond grateful for the role God plays in my life. Not only does He provide what I need…He provides what I never knew I needed. He can present you with someone with the ability to change your life in an instant. But you must be open to it. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the quickest to trust the motives of newcomers. There are so many scam artists out there it’s easy to harbor trust issues. This is where discernment plays a major role. There are genuine people out there who truly want to be a blessing to you. Risk mitigation will always be important. But once you’ve done your due diligence, decide if the reward is worth the risk. If it is, then step out on faith. Sometimes God’s plan for your life includes exposure to people & situations that may be foreign to you.
“The mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting.” ~ Plutarch
Inspiration can spark at a moment’s notice. You can be moseying along in life doing what you’ve always done, and suddenly encounter someone who ignites your soul. You begin to see new possibilities for your future…possibilities you never thought possible. There are so many things we have yet to be exposed to, and all it takes is the right person to pull back the shade to reveal the path to the unrealized dreams you locked away in the basement of your mind.
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” ~ Isaac Newton
A trusted mentor who’s been where you’re trying to go can shave years of pain & frustration off your journey. And keep in mind that not all giants seek the attention of the masses. There are some who are quietly doing great things and amassing great wealth who have no desire for the spotlight. So many people allow themselves to be deceived by follower counts…also known as social media currency. I’ve encountered some prominent individuals with only a handful of followers. Don’t miss out on a golden opportunity because you’re looking at the wrong things. There are giants out there hiding in modest settings who hold the ability to transform your life in ways you never imagined. That’s if you take your eyes off the peacocks of social media long enough to listen.
“If you cannot see where you are going, ask someone who has been there before.” ~ J. Loren Norris
You’re never too old to find a mentor beneficial. But you must set aside your ego and be open-minded to the fact you will never know everything there is to know in this life. You don’t have to make all the mistakes & take insurmountable losses to learn what you need to learn in whatever area you desire. There are people who will happily share their wisdom & expertise with someone who truly appreciates them for what they have to offer. And don’t allow yourself to get locked in on what the mentor should look like. They come in all races, genders, ages, and backgrounds. Someone younger than yourself of a different gender could hold the keys to legacy changing doors. Doors you probably never would’ve explored on your own. You owe it to yourself and everyone under your charge to leave no stone unturned in your pursuit to greatness. And if you allow the right people to assist you in your quest, the barriers blocking the entrance to a new life will be of no consequence.
