Built To Last
“You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you’re going to have a strong superstructure.” ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
In a microwave society, it’s become common practice to cut corners in an attempt to gain quick results. You will have a product, but is it built to last? Ignoring the details will leave you with a subpar structure. The design matters. Details matter. The quality of the materials matter. The strength of the foundation matters. The effort you put into building the structure matters. It’s the difference between building a temporary fixture & building something to withstand the test of time.
“The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty.” ~ Zig Ziglar
What are you prioritizing? Aesthetics & curb appeal only? Or is the need for quality a must have? Are you working to build a truly strong family foundation, or are you satisfied with the appearance of a stable family? Do you simply desire a spouse, or do you prioritize the importance of building a solid marriage. Are you satisfied with merely having a job, or do you desire to establish a career? Do you value true friendship, or does your interest in other people hinge upon what they can do to help you meet your agenda? Do you love people with all your heart, or does your love fade when you deem them no longer useful, and then discard them in the name of them “no longer serving” you? Foundation work requires you question your motives. Only if your intentions are pure will you find the right balance in all your endeavors. In order to accomplish this, you must actually be interested in discovering the right balance to bring it to fruition. Possessing a selfish, short-sighted mindset is the equivalent to building your house on sinking sand. The storms of life will eventually bring it down.
“What you need to do is build the house you will live in. You build that house by laying a solid foundation: by building physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.” ~ James Altucher
How stable is your house? Not the home where you eat, sleep, and watch TV…but the God-given dwelling where your heart & mind reside. Are you practicing good stewardship over yourself? We tend to place more emphasis on physical strength, but your mental, emotional, and spiritual health hold just as much value. It’s impossible to build a strong internal foundation if you’re lacking in any of these areas. I’ve discussed in the past the importance of pouring into yourself, filling your internal cup, and keeping if full. A foundation built on self-love will be able to withstand any test life presents you with. When you know who you are and whose you are…God’s child…you won’t be easily rattled when the opposition attempts to make you question your worth.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:”
~ Matthew 7:24
The ministry of Jesus Christ was approximately 3 years, and over 2000 years later His impact on the world is undeniable. The strength of His foundation is undeniable. What steps are you taking to build a legacy that will bless your loved ones for generations to come? Selfish thinking will lead you to move through this life like it’s only about you. But if you take a few steps back to look at the bigger picture, you have so much more to offer. With a firm foundation established, the house you build will provide shelter for years to come.
