Some Things Take Time
“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.” ~ Arnold H. Glasow
The reason patience is considered a virtue is because practicing it sucks. We as humans are not naturally inclined to wait. We want it now. The only time waiting doesn’t feel like a chore is when we have no desire for that which we are forced to wait upon. What we sometimes fail to realize is growth takes place during the wait. Growth necessary to handle what we’re waiting to receive. Receiving a blessing before we’re able to manage it could result in it feeling like a burden. And even if you’re ready, what you desire may not be ready for you. Development among individuals is normally asynchronous. Two entities rarely grow at the same pace. Be as patient with others as you would want them to be with you. Sometimes we’re the ones who aren’t in the position to move forward and need more time. It’s not that we don’t want it, we’re just not mentally prepared for the task. Keep this in mind during the waiting process. Give others the grace you desire.
“To lose patience is to lose the battle.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Sometimes we get so impatient we give up. But if there’s real potential, don’t give up on your goals. That’s a guaranteed way to fail. There will be situations where the best thing to do is walk away, but that shouldn’t be your default when your patience starts getting short. Some things take time. Good things can come to those who wait. You wouldn’t want a meal that wasn’t fully cooked, so why would you want anything else if it wasn’t ready? Sometimes the answer isn’t no…just simply not yet.
“Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.” ~ Molière
The expression “fools rush in” exists for a reason. Rushing into a situation prematurely can lead to disastrous consequences. Patience can save your life. It’s better to wait than to force it. But you must be discerning when determining who / what deserves your patience. What you desire may never be ready for you. There will be people & situations that will be a complete waste of time. Their actions will tell you if they’re sincere or just giving you lip service. The word of someone with a history of empty promises must be taken with a grain of salt. But if they’re making a genuine effort, then grant them the grace to work through their issues. Life has a way of flipping the script. You may be the one in need of grace in due season.
“One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life.” ~ Chinese Proverb
As the saying goes, the race is not given to the swift, but to those who endure to the end. Growth takes time. Healing takes time. Patience requires faith. Your faith is tested in the wait. Your character is built in the wait. The higher you go in life and the more influence you gain…the more patience will be required. People will demand more of your time & energy, and not everyone will be easy to deal with. There will be challenges, and your patience will be tested daily. Will you pass the test? People are depending on you to be the best version of yourself. Make sure you show up. Every day.
