are you really pursuing your dreams?
“Don’t give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you.” ~ John Wooden.
Do you feel like your best years are behind you? Think back to your childhood dreams. Think back to all the different things you wanted to be when you grew up. The possibilities were endless. But as you got older, life beat you into submission. It was no longer about pursuing your dreams. It became about survival. Keeping a roof over your head & food on the table became the primary goal. You gave up your possibilities for security, and now you’re trapped on the merciless hamster wheel of life with no end in sight. Visions of an exciting life faded into a dull routine. Wake up. Eat. Go to work. Come home. Eat. Watch TV. Go to bed. Repeat.
“The only difference between a rut and a grave are the dimensions.” ~ Ellen Glasgow
I’ve been there, so I know the feeling. Watching television was my escape. Getting lost in their lives helped me not think about mine. But then one day it hit me. “I’m sitting here watching other people live out their dreams.” Once I had this epiphany, I got to work on my goals. Changing my priorities transformed my life.
“The only thing worse than starting something and failing… is not starting something.” ~ Seth Godin
You can change the course of your life, too. It doesn’t have to be this way. But you must decide you’re ready for a change, and then act. It’s simple. No action. No results. Ask yourself why you gave up on your dreams. Are you addicted to your comfort zone? Are you afraid to put yourself out there and try something new? Or do you simply lack motivation? Being able to answer these questions will provide you with the direction to get started. Understanding your “why” will help you identify your limiting beliefs and develop a strategy to overcome your mental obstacles. You can then begin implementing the steps necessary to put your dreams in motion. These steps may require learning a new skill or doing something completely out of your comfort zone. The better you understand yourself, the easier it will be to develop a strategy going forward.
“Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” ~ Ray Kroc
Persistence, combined with consistency, is the timeless formula to making your dreams a reality. Possessing all the ability in the world will prove useless without genuine effort. Once you develop a thorough understanding of self and what you truly desire, as well as a game plan, you must consistently & persistently push forward to bring your dreams to fruition. You don’t want to look back at your life and wonder what could’ve been had you pursued your dreams. Don’t risk having to live with the bitter taste of regret. Sweet dreams are made of realized dreams! Develop a plan, and make it happen.
